Special Indigo - Shibori - Boro - Batik 2 Day Workshop - September 28 & 29
BORO -SHIBORI - BATIK
with Laura Castro, Tatiana Castillo and Christiana Vardakou
Takes place at the Christiana Vardakou studio (Kallirois Parren 3, Athens) - 8 students max
First Session: Saturday 28 September - 10.30-15.30
Second Session: Sunday 29 September - 10.30-13.30
The workshop will last 9 hours (5 hours on Saturday and 3 hours on Sunday) and includes all materials as well as snacks.
Saturday:
Laura will teach us about the magic of the colour blue with natural indigo applied to the Japanese Shibori technique. We will learn 6 different techniques to create beautiful pieces. Each piece will have a unique design created by you. We will also do some single colour immersion tests to have a palette of blues.
Christiana will teach us about the traditional Indonesian technique called Batik. We will use different tools from Christiana’s personal collection to draw on fabrics using melted wax. We will create 4 different pieces that will then be dyed using natural indigo.
Sunday:
Christiana will show us how to remove the wax from the batik pieces.
Tatiana will talk to us about the Japanese technique of Boro. She will show us a variety of techniques to mend clothes in the style of Boro. Boro means “rags or tatters” and is the art of repairing fabric using scraps and stitching. We will use all the fabrics we have created (shibori samples, batik samples and natural indigo immersion dyeing samples) to create a tote bag that you will take with you at the end of the workshop.
The workshop is taught in English.
