Collaboration with the Interactive European School

This November, we held batik workshops at DES nursery and kindergarten.

The projects were inspired by Sonia Delaunay, Keith Haring, Paul Klee and Joan Miro.

We did a presentation for each artist, explaining to the children about the art movements, the colours and the shapes used. Then each child drew on a piece of paper using markers, in the style of the artist. The next day, we explained the process of batik and the children had the opportunity to try draw their drawings with wax on fabric. On the final day, they coloured in their designs. It was a lovely experience and we hope we will be back again next year!

The following weeks I also went to the primary school of DES. For the older children, we focused on the following artists:

Yayoi Kusama, Hundertwasser, Matisse, Picasso, O’Keeffe, Van Gogh

After the presentations, they had to draw a composition inspired by the artist. The next day we copied the drawing on fabric and batiked on the fabric, and the last day we added colours. The results were beautiful!
